"What’s A Widget?"

Actually, it can be any number of things and programs giving a variety of information. But I want to discuss book widgets. Somewhat like the book trailer a book widget lets you have a sneak peek at a variety of books. Scroll down a little further and you’ll see the one I’ve placed on my blog. With the use of our wonderful modern tech, a widget will scroll through a pre-selected number of offerings in the same genre or at times under a certain subject, like best-sellers or new authors. Pick out the widget that best suits you and/or your genre. It doesn’t take too much research and just a simple Google will provide you with various offerings.

Promoting your book is a must but giving your readers other choices can also be good for you as well. You’re giving your readers a service by providing them with a variety of reading choices to peruse and who knows, maybe they’ll remember where the recommendation came from and suggest your site to others and that can only draw other readers to you in the long run as well as authors in your genre who are as interested as you are in commiserating with other authors. And there are a lot of us out here.

Some of the larger publishing houses have widgets for their own authors for example:

HarperCollins had their Browse Inside widgets. So far, they only seem to be for a certain book and not for a variety of books like others. I’ll look into this service every so often to see if it changes and give an update if it does. Here’s an example of two just at random:

The same with the Random House widgets as well as TOR.

So if you’re lucky enough to be with these two publishers here is another way you can promote or have your friends place this on their blogs or sites.

I’m always pleased when I discover little extras in my research. There’s a site I came upon called Adaptive Blue which features a nice little mechanism where you can customize widgets of your own for various sites. I tried it out myself and this is what I came up with. So why not hop on over and take a look?

And a second place I came across. I need to do a little more research into this one but it’s called KickApps, where you can also make your own widgets.

So if you know of other places that are good for getting widgets feel free to comment.

More later…

CJ

*By the way, I’m purposely saving services like Amazon and Google for later because I’ll be looking into those myself and want to do some further research.

About authorcjblack

I'm a multi-published author of fantasy, erotic and paranormal fiction. The first two books of my series, Illusion of Night and Memory in Shadow are currently available from Liquid Silver Books as well as a recently published novella, Soul Fires. I'm currently seeking an agent who loves heroic fantasy as much as I do, to rep my work, Tinderbox. I’ve been an author for almost thirty years and got my start on an old typewriter at the age of five and wrote my first novel at fourteen. Probably the world’s biggest bibliophile I own three-hundred plus books and counting. My hobbies include working in my garden, cooking and I’m possibly the world’s oldest Girl Gamer. I encourage readers and authors to contact me to discuss the business anytime.
